CAMILA GALAZ presents "Questioning Existence with the Subjunctive (Spanish Demystified)"

Galaz will be reflecting on how translation and mistranslation can be used to highlight language as a key form of access to cultural memory and identity, and as an avenue for exploring intergenerational legacies of state violence.
Her presentation will be delivered with reference to a new video work developed as part of a mentorship with the NGV, titled ‘Vecino Vecino’

CAMILA GALAZ lives and works in Melbourne, where she completed Honours in Fine Art at RMIT. Her practice links performance, history, and memory by working with layers of authenticity, humour and personal interpretations to explore intimate connections to history and resistance. Through video, drawing, and installation, she looks to discover how large historical events play out in people’s everyday lives and embodied experiences, often across generations
