Jamie O'Connell: "Carspa Scarpa"
"Carspa Scarpa" will be presented within 'The Pool' - curated by Isabelle Toland, Amelia Holliday and Michelle Tabet, and originally commissioned for the Venice Architecture Biennale by the Australian Institute of Architects. ------------
JAMIE O’CONNELL is an artist that lives and works in Melbourne. His idiosyncratic creations are meditations on nature, machines, the body and human consciousness.
His projects range in size and medium, from monumental kinetic and sound-producing sculptures to almost microscopic pieces created from actions and investigations.
Driven by ideas, materials, and an interest in transformation, his past works include a VW Golf converted into a functioning spa bath; the attempt to launch a meteorite back into outer space; and a system that chases House music around the globe streaming live sets from a constant 3am on earth.
His first major solo exhibition More Day Than Beyoncé was held at Gertrude Contemporary in early 2016. Other recent solo shows include More Day at Neon Parc Gallery Bourke Street, as well as exhibiting as part of Spring 1883, Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize and Neon Parc’s Misshaped Head.
Jamie O’Connell has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Victorian College of the Arts, and is currently undertaking a Masters of Fine Arts at Monash University. He is represented by Neon Parc Gallery, Melbourne.
